32 Inspirational Outdoor Adventure Quotes

It has been a long and cold winter,  and I miss the sunshine!! I am a warm weather person, and so the winter months always seem the longest. I cannot wait until Spring comes and I can start all of my camping adventures because even though it is possible, I do not think anyone will catch me winter camping. And it is so hard to stay active because of all the snow and freezing temperatures. I feel like a hibernating, lazy bear, and I do not like it!

So, I have compiled a list of these amazing outdoorsy quotes and sayings that inspire adventure, the outdoors, and nature. They also remind me that the sunshine is just around the corner and the first day of spring is five short weeks away, starting March 20th. Woohoo!!!  But in the meantime, take inspiration from this list. I even have a few of them on t-shirts, they are that good. Be inspired, sit in the sun and get outside. There are so many quotes about the outdoors, but these are my favorite.

“Live in the sunshine, swim in the sea, drink the wild air”- Ralph Waldo Emerson

“You don’t have to sit outside in the dark. If, however, you want to look at the stars, you will find that darkness is necessary. But the stars neither require nor demand it.” – Annie Dillard

“We don’t stop hiking because we grow old, we grow old because we stop hiking.” – Finis Mitchell

“Because in the end, you won’t remember the time you spent working in the office or mowing your lawn… Climb that goddamn mountain.” – Jack Kerouac

“The earth has music for those who listen.” – William Shakespeare

“It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men’s hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from old trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.” –Robert Louis Stevenson

“The sun does not shine for a few trees and flowers, but for the wide world’s joy.” – Henry Ward Beecher

“Nature is ever at work building and pulling down, creating and destroying, keeping everything whirling and flowing, allowing no rest but in rhythmical motion, chasing everything in endless song out of one beautiful form into another.” – John Muir

“Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” – Amelia Earhart

“Life is either a daring adventure or nothing.” – Helen Keller

“There is magic in the feel of a paddle and the movement of a canoe, a magic compounded of distance, adventure, solitude, and peace. The way of a canoe is the way of the wilderness and of a freedom almost forgotten. It is an antidote to insecurity, the open door to waterways of ages past and a way of life with profound and abiding satisfactions. When a man is part of his canoe, he is part of all that canoes have ever known.” – Sigurd F. Olsen

“I love Nature partly because she is not man, but a retreat from him. None of his institutions control or pervade her. There a different kind of right prevails. In her midst I can be glad with an entire gladness. If this world were all man, I could not stretch myself, I should lose all hope. He is constraint, she is freedom to me. He makes me wish for another world. She makes me content with this.” – Henry David Thoreau

“Of all the things I’d been skeptical about,  I didn’t feel skeptical about this: the wilderness had a clarity that included me.” – Cheryl Strayed “Wild”

““Fortunately, the sun has a wonderfully glorious habit of rising every morning. When the sky lightened, when the birds awoke, I knew I would never again see anything so splendid as the round red sun coming up over the earth.” – Jean Craighead George “My Side of The Mountain”

“In the presence of nature, a wild delight runs through the man, in spite of real sorrows.” – Ralph Waldo Emerson

“One of the first conditions of happiness is that the link between Man and Nature shall not be broken.” – Leo Tolstoy

There is pleasure in the pathless woods, there is rapture in the lonely shore, there is society where none intrudes, by the deep sea, and music in its roar; I love not Man the less, but Nature more.” – Lord Byron

“The farther one gets into the wilderness, the greater is the attraction of its lonely freedom.” – Theodore Roosevelt

“Forget not thay the Earth delights to feel your bare feet and the wind longs to play with your hair.” – Khalil Gibran

“I would feel more optimistic about a bright future for man if he spent less time proving that he can outwit Nature and more time tasting her sweetness and respecting her seniority.” – E. B. White

“I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery- air, mountains, trees, people. I thought ‘This is what it is to be happy’.” – Sylvia Plaith “The Bell Jar”

“To me, a lush carpet of pine needles or spongy grass is more welcome than a luxurious Persian carpet.” – Helen Keller

““The mountains are fountains of men as well as of rivers, of glaciers, of fertile soil. The great poets, philosophers, prophets, able men whose thoughts and deeds have moved the world, have come down from the mountains – mountain dwellers who have grown strong there with the forest trees in Nature’s workshops.” – John Muir

“I could never resist the call of the trail.” – Buffalo Bill

“We shall not cease from exploration, and then end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time.” – T.S Eliot

““Nature has been for me, for as long as I remember, a source of solace, inspiration, adventure, and delight; a home, a teacher, a companion.” – Lorraine Anderson

“You’re off to great places, today is your day. Your mountain is waiting, so get on your way.” – Dr. Suess

“Hiking is not escapism; it’s realism. The people who choose to spend time outdoors are not running away from anything; we are returning to where we belong.” – Jennifer Pharr Davis “The Pursuit of Endurance: Harnessing the Record-Breaking Power of Strength and Resilience”

“Everyone wants to live on top of the mountain. But all the happiness and growth occurs when you are climbing it.” – Andy Rooney

“Be humble for you are made of earth, be noble for you are made of stars.” – Serbian Proverb

“When you see someone putting on his Big Boots, you can be pretty sure that an Adventure is going to happen.” – A. A. Milne “Winnie the Pooh”

I never really thought about there being so many outdoor quotes. I usually write down all kinds of entrepreneur quotes but I never really paid attention to this type. I love it they have a feeling of peace or calming to them. Idk if that makes sense but It feels great…maybe it resignates that feeling like when I was a young child spending time in the outdoors camping and sleeping under the big sky and feeling loved and at peace with my family.

This was actually a hard one to nail down. There are so many, especially by Muir. He was called the Poet Lariat od the Sierras. His journals are very poetic.
