The Best Gift Guide for Outdoorsy Women This Year

When Mother’s Day or my birthday comes around, I always ask for items that I can use. Usually, it’s stuff that I can take on my adventures or use outside. As much as I love to cook, I really don’t want a blender or toaster. I want something that I enjoy. What I really love, are things that are useful in a different way and I usually add all sorts of camping and hiking things to my wish list. I like practical and affordable things and stuff that won’t just sit in the closet. I also do a bit of research before I purchase any outdoor item, because I do not want to be stuck with things I cannot or will not use or will break quickly.

So, I’ve compiled a list of a few items that I have tried and absolutely love. These gifts are perfect for the outdoorsy mom, but also the mom that runs or cycles or just loves being outside in nature. A lot of them are great for dads too! I hope you like these items as much as I do and make sure to add them to your wish list and give someone a subtle hint šŸ™‚ **Please note, this post contains affiliates links at no cost to you but by clicking on them, we can earn a small commission.

Tackle Bag– I love to fish. I am not the greatest at it, but I fish for the peace and quiet and the excitement every once in awhile. I do have some bragging rights! Some of those older tackle boxes are too heavy and bulky, and that is why I love the tackle bags. Plus it has a should strap, so you have a free hand to carry your pole or you can hang it on a tree and not lose it in the grass. And… it’s not camo…

Water Bladder– There are lots of different types of water bladder or hydration backpacks. I like this one because it weighs less than a pound without water, holds up to two liters AND it looks very cute. Besides the flamingo one, this hydration pack comes in other designs like floral or metallic.

Camping Journal – I am not a scrap-booker. But I love to write. So this journal is perfect to keep together all of our memories of camping. With this journal, it makes it easier to remember all of our fun trips, which became even more important that they were documented when one of our camping buddies passed away last year. I can go back and read what I wrote, and laugh and cry. But, I’ll never forget those sweet memories.

The Lost Art Of Reading Nature’s Signs“, and How To Play In The Woods” –Nothing like camping or being at the lake to find the time to read a new book or try something new. As a mom, I like books I can read and share with my kids. Both of these are great books for moms. Kids enjoy the fun information in both. These books have great tips and are very resourceful. I absolutely love “How To Play In The Woods” because of my children. There are so many fun activities that they can do including cooking, making natural paints and dyes, and storytelling tips. This was given to me as a Christmas gift and it was perfect.

Coaltree Grandview Hammock – I’m in love with these hammocks. They are super light-weight, colorful and extra wide. This one is great for hammock camping, hanging out at a camp site, or even at homes under the trees.

Nomadik– I love subscriptions boxes, but this one by far has been the most useful. Any mom will enjoy the gift that lasts year round and she can use if she spends time outdoors or travels. This outdoors subscription box is amazing and you can look as previous boxes by checking out my previous reviews for January or February. This month, I got a new insulated tumbler, an inflatable solar powered light and a reusable straw.

Cast Iron Handle Covers– Whether you cook with cast iron at home or when camping, these are awesome. Nobody likes burnt fingers and cast iron gets so hot.

Enamel Dish Set– I like to take enamel dishes for camping. Disposable plates and cutlery are great, but they aren’t very environmentally friendly. These are durable and a great addition to any camping box. Be sure to pack dish soap though. And, try to get a color that noone else has because everyone we know has the same color. šŸ™‚

Enamel Coffee Cups – Speaking of enamel, I love enamel coffee mugs for camping. In the last few years, they have really been trending, but are really a practical gift and can be so unique and beautiful. United by Blue on Amazon has a large selection, but you can check out other unique ones in this camp coffee mug and pot post.

Inflatable Air Mattress I can sleep anywhere, but my husband needs a mattress. Our last one lasted about ten years, until one of the kids thought it would be fun to stab a box with a fork… Both of these are very easy to inflate and we just plug it in to the truck. This manufacturer also has wonderful customer service. I like the camping air mattress too. Both of these easily fit into a four person tent.

Backpacking Stove– There are all types of stoves for backpacking, but I like this one for our family. It comes with the stove and a cooking cup that has a handle. I cannot tell you how frustrating it is when you spill the water because you can not pick up the pot. My husband got third degree burns by spilling hot water on himself while backpacking when he was a teenager, so the handle is a great safety feature. I also prefer gas, because it heats faster. The bottom of the cup (and also the pans), has Jet Boil’s signature waffle element, which makes the water boil quicker and more evenly.

Headlamp– Always take a headlamp, even if it is just a day hike. I love this one because you can easily adjust the light level, the size, and the angle of the light. It is also rechargeable and lasts for a long time.

Hat– I have fair skin so I try to always wear a hat. If you don’t like boony hats, try something like this one. And, this is super cute. I also lose hats all of the time because my kids “borrow” them.

Socks– There is nothing like a good, warm sock. I love wool socks for camping, hiking, and backpacking. I have mentioned a few times that my feet besides being super wide, also get really sweaty. These socks are moisture-wicking so I don’t have to walk around in damp socks all day.

The Nomadik Subscription Box– If you are looking for a unique gift for her, try a monthly subscription box. The Nomadik is a monthly subscription box for outdoor lovers, starting at $29.99, but you can buy it one-time only too. If you want to learn more, check out the May 2020 Nomadik review here.

Hooded Sweatshirt– It’s always nice to have a fun and soft hoodie. It gets chilly here even in the summertime. So cold in fact, I take thermals camping, even in the summer. This summer, we didn’t even get one day that was 100 degrees and two years ago it snowed in August.

self care gifts

Moisture Wicking Shirt– If you run or hike or do any type of exercise outdoors, these are perfect shirts. I prefer long sleeves to keep me protected form the sun, but also to keep me from getting scratched when I hike or backpack. These are also awesome for layering.

I hope you enjoyed this list. All of these items are useful and some of them are fun too. Maybe I should get a neon-pink boony hat to go with the pink flamingo hydration pack? Is there something that you would like to add to this list? Let us know and we can add it. You might want to check out this other 2020 gift guide for outdoorsy people, or the stocking stuffers for outdoorsy people, and even the adventure and nature lovers booklist. Have the right stuff when you get outside because nothing should hold you back. As always, be outside with no limits. Love, Pauline

Oh how I would love to get some of the things on this list! I love the water bladder and could totally use a head lamp. One thing I would like to add on my list is a Go-Pro! As a new blogger who hopes to chronicle adventures outside, it would be so helpful to have my hands free and take video/pictures at the same time. šŸ™‚

As much as I don’t like the cold, I would probably only go camping in late autumn just to avoid snakes. Of all of my fears, that’s the one that still hangs tightly to my paranoia!

I am so naive to camping that I wouldn’t know to put this on a must-have list. LOL. I love it, though. I have something to reference if I ever do go.
